One vital piece of information you want to check out daily is the IBD Market Pulse. This little box contains a ton of valuable intelligence on the market activity for the day. It identifies the day's action, the current outlook, distribution days as well as the market leaders up and down in volume. Just by reading this box, you can learn more about the market in an instant than from watching the evening news. Which, by the way, does anyone watch that anymore?
I think that to get the most out of the market pulse, it's key that you take the time to ascertain what the market did on your own and use it to confirm what the market told you it did today. One part of the market pulse that I am still getting a handle on using are the leaders up and down in volume.
Any stock listed on the front page should definitely merit further study and probably should go on a watch list. This is particularly true at the beginning of any new bull market. Stocks establishing new leadership will be focused on here and you'll want to keep a close eye on them.
For me, I am still trying to determine what leadership really means and as I get more of a handle on that I will detail it here on the site. I think that this will come as I develop more of a system to screen for stocks and how to manage my watch list.
One of the key things I'll be trying to work on is defining leadership. Is it stocks that have the best earnings? Is it stocks that have the highest price increases? Is it volume related? So I guess as I put my stock market investing system together I will learn more about it and hopefully, you'll get some benefit out of too.
Good luck and happy investing!
