As per my usual stock market investing routine, the first step is take a look at today's stock market investing action and see what the market indexes are telling us. We started the day with the current outlook as "market in confirmed uptrend." What this means now is that each day I'm now looking for distribution days when the market closes lower on higher volume. Since the outlook changed, we have yet to see a distribution day. I heard the market closed higher today so let's have a look. Having heard that, one thing I was interested in seeing was how heavy volume was. Step one is to swing over to investors.com and view the market index charts.
The S&P 500 had a healthy increase in price on higher than the previous day's volume. This is a good sign. I'm still a little puzzled by the fact that the volume is lower than the 50 day moving average. No distribution day here.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the NYSE Composite and the NASDAQ also closed higher on higher volume. All good signs.
None of the market indexes have closed lower on higher volume yet. I'll confirm my findings with the Big Picture column and IBD TV.
Keep tabs on the market. It's the first key element of the CANSLIM strategy.
